  • ITY Jersey

Interlock twist jersey is a medium weight jersey knit that is available in a wide variety of prints. This fabric is soft, beautiful, and comfortable to wear! It's perfect for travel, as well.

    Pretreatment:

Machine wash, cold water, no bleach. Machine dry, or lay flat to dry.

    Needles and Thread:

Jersey needles, size 11/75, are the best choice. Choose a poly/cotton or all polyester thread for construction.

    Seams, Seam Finishes, and Hems:

A small zigzag stitch (2.0 width, 2.0 length) will give you the best results for seams. If you have a serger, use a 3 or 4 thread balanced stitch for seams. Hems can be created by topstitching with a twin needle, or by topstitching with the same zigzag stitch used for construction. Or, for the simplest hems, leave them raw. Seams do not require finishes.

    Interfacing:

Very lightweight tricot fusible interfacing can be used successfully for this fabric. If you prefer a sewn-in interfacing, use power mesh or onionsilk lining.

    Pattern Suggestions:

Tops, tanks, tees, skirts, dresses, cardigans, wraps, shawls, full pants.

    Creative possibilities:

Pair ITY jersey with mesh, lace, or solid colored jersey as a trim.

    Additional Tips:

Reinforce shoulder seams with a strip of ribbon or woven selvedge inserted in the stitching. This will keep the shoulder seams from stretching during wear. ITY jersey can sometimes be slippery to sew. A strip of tissue placed between the fabric and the needle when stitching will provide some stability. The tissue can be gently torn away after stitching. Store your ITY jersey garments folded and laying flat.
